Winter Parisienne Chic: Black, Gray, & Mustard

It's funny how as we age, our taste in color changes. I was never attracted to the color mustard yellow until a couple of years ago when I figured out that it is a color that I should wear.
So often, when shopping for clothing, I find myself debating over colors that make my heart melt and colors that actually suit me.

Not a mustard yellow fan? Use this image as a springboard for inspiration. Substitute the yellow for fuschia, emerald green, or crimson or pumpkin/russet (as suggested by Elena)...

And as we all know les vraies parisienne's do just that. They select clothing that actually flatters their skin tones.
Now that mustard yellow and I have become friends, I find it to be a quite striking and versatile color to work with in my wardrobe. {And aren't these images of mustard yellow quite charming??}
But I must say...whether blush, winter white, and aqua flatter me or not, I'm going to wear them anyway~~

Love this outfit! And now that I think about it, I do not believe I have anything at all that is mustard yellow in my wardrobe. I will have to go try on some items at the stores in mustard yellow this week and see if they flatter me.

I pinned that coat last week, it is gorgeous! The outfit is wonderful and not only is mustard yellow one of my faves but so is gray, all tones of gray. I'm bet you look stunning in both! t.xoxox

Dear Mandy,
LOVE LOVE LOVE mustard this year too! It is funny how colors come to us on an airwave. They seem to touch us every so many years. I was thinking mustard is the new black this year but now I see you have shown us with black and It is simply beautiful! You are always so inspirational:)
XOOXO
Hugs to Amelia too!

Is that coat part of Anthropologie's winter catalogue. I think I saw it this week (or one similar) - it is VERY lovely. :)

One of the most elegant of all colour combinations! Love the coat - but also love the sophisticated ease of your selection board too.

What beautiful combination! I think I would substitute pumpkin or russet for the mustard--and I yearn for that cardigan withthe flower broach. Any pumpkin or russet flower broaches in your etsy shop, by any chance? I love the black and beige one, but i feel the urge to expand.

It is delightful to find this post. I often wondered if I am the only on who has noticed a definite change in color preferences. I have fallen in love with that beautiful soft sand color. I would never have considered it years ago. So thank you for typing about this. It is very informative and encouraging.

Lucky girl, being able to wear such a beautiful color. How did you discover it was for you? By accident or did you have a color consultation? I think the corsage is a good idea for those of us who love the color but can't wear too much of it. Thank you for the inspiration!

Love mustard! I just bought myself a new pair of Repetto ballet flats from here in Melbourne, Australia. They are mustard patent leather and look so chic.
