I Will Always Love Pink

Yes, when I was in the 5th grade my best friend's mom painted her room pink. Katie's room was always so enchanting...

*Miniature ballet slippers hanging from a vintage painting of Peter Rabbit

*An immaculately built Barbie doll house made by her father complete with handmade drapes and linoleum floors, decorated by her very creative and resourceful mother

*vintage handpainted tea sets for little girls gracefully placed upon shelves that lined two walls of her room just a foot below the ceiling...

Yes, Katie's pink room was magical...
And I always looked forward to playing at her house, especially in her room.

One autumn day, after exiting the musty school bus that dropped me off at the end of my driveway, I entered the house, and instead of seeing my mother at the stove cooking dinner, she was standing in the livingroom waiting for me.

"I have a surprise for you," she said as her eyes flicked over my shoulder in the direction of my bedroom.

I threw my backpack to the livingroom floor and dashed to my room...

My bedroom walls had been transformed to a pale shade of pink...

That day during school, my parents painted my room pink...just.for.me.

My bedroom walls remained pink throughout my awkward junior high years, my busy high school years, and some time in the midst of my time away in college, they were changed back to their original shade of white...

Although my pink bedroom walls in my parent's house have been "erased," I managed to carry pink with me to my adult home-my home.

Yes, there is even a little pink in my bedroom now.

Someday...maybe soon, I will show you.

Divine. Inspiring. Mood-altering and even confusing, because I just can't decide which color is my favorite....PINK or TURQUOISE? Peut être, les deux, ENSEMBLE!!!! Lovely photos dearest and an equally enchanting story....VIVE LA COULEUR ROSE! Anita

Oh what a wonderful memory.. I remember when my parents re-did my room... white walls with 80's mauve trim, pretty taupe and mauve sheets and a lovely doll named Naomi to sit atop my bed.
She now lives in Amélie's room.
I can't wait, simply can't wait to see your bedroom... did you show it to us a LONG time ago with some purple or am I remembering another room? h
Hmmmm...

Come by and see my little one, she is todays feature!

Parisienne Farmgirl- The purple room was Amelia's. Good memory, though; that was over a year ago!

Hi Mandy, i'm back again, i forgot to tell you i love the color pink so much that once i had my antique store painted pink! It was in a older house and needed painting and the owner ask what color we would like, when i told him pink he wasn't to happy about it,( I guess it's just a man thing) but he went ahead and painted it the color we ask anyway! It certainly got alot of attention.

My room was pink too - and I never tire of it's beautiful color! I use it as an accent color in my current home, but see it daily in the sunrise and sunset and in my garden.
I look forward to when you share your bedroom photos.
Wishing you a lovely day,
Zuzu

Hi Mandy, I agree with you 100%....PINK is a color that I will never get sick of like you would with other colors, that's why I have it in my home..

I'm really loving those sheets, gosh I would love to purchase those, and the dress is incredibly gorgeous!

Awww,I think that was SO sweet of your parents making your dream come true for your bedroom. I don't know about you, but when my parents made my dreams come true for my bedroom from what I've seen in a magazine... I cried with joy after seeing my room get finished and knowing how much they wanted me to be happy. I will never forget that and I know you will never forget what they did for you. One of these days I may do a post on that story as well.

I do hope you share with us your bedroom... Soon!

Hugs*

What a lovely story Mandy and such intuitive parents! I love pink in a bedroom and I always say "men have no problem with pink in a bedroom if there is a woman waiting there for him". Hope you summer is going well and I am sure you are busy keeping up to little Amelia. Much love XO and xo

Just had an amazing time reading through your blog that I just discovered.
What a lovely story.... My daughter's room is pale pink. I asked her the other if she wanted me to paint another color, she thought for few seconds and said, no mommy, I like it pink.

Looking forward to future posts.

Oh yes Mande! I am also a lover of pink! My wedding dress was a very pale pink silk. I LOVED it!:) I also had one of those friends:) I loved going to her home and playing in her magical little playhouse in her backyard. Very similar to your story, built by her dad, handmade curtains from mom, a small rug and faux fire place. A miniature staircase leading to an upstairs ( I was convinced that there was a loft up there but there was no upstairs, just the stairs) Now I'm trying to talk the hubby into doing one for Paris-Noel, actually I don't have to do much convincing because I think he wants to do it as badly as I do;)

YUMMY! And now I laugh. My bedroom was painted a pale peach because my sister and I had to choose the color ourselves. When she moved out I painted it turquoise and used accents of purple and green. Guess I was way way ahead of time or do they just recycle color combinations? I think the latter, as the favorite on my mother used was blue and brown.

I love the photographs you choose for your blog and will certainly enjoy future visits.

P.S. my son used to tease me about always having a dusty pink shade on the walls in my bedroom The turquoise must have been a teenaged phase.
